I posted this in the Western Forum as well but thought I wold try here as well.

I will be headed out to SLC for a few days in mid-June and hope to get a few hours, either AM or PM to do some railfanning. I'm not sure yet what part of town I'll be staying in but am looking for advice on good places to railfan. I should have access to a car and a GPS.

I know there is some commuter operations as well as Amtrak and light rail. My preference would be for for freight but I'm open to suggestions. I'll only have a few hours one or twice during my stay so I don't want to spend it all driving out of town to a location I can only spend a few minutes at.

Can anyone help?

Well I ended up with light rail and walking and wound up just behind the former UP station at Grant tower, CP C783

Here are a few from the area:

A UTA commuter run headed out for Ogden.
