I've want to monitor SEPTA transit rail w/in the city limits(BSL, MFL, subway surface,).

Are any or all of these frequencies trunked? When they are in the tunnel is it possible to hear them above ground(like through a repeater)? Also, any info on the call sign system they use would be appreciated.

SEPTA uses a digital trunk system. I do not know the channels though.

SEPTA *does not* use a digital trunked system.

The regional rail network uses standard AAR channels. The other heavy rail and light rail operations use either conventional channels in the 500MHz band or talkgroups on an analog trunked system in the 500MHz band. All of the conventional 500MHz channels are repeaters except the yard channel:

502.6875 SEPTA Transit Police
502.7375 Maintenance of Way (BSL/MFL)
502.7625 Broad Street Line Trains/Supervisors
502.7875 Market-Frankford Line Trains/Supervisors
504.1375 Yard Operations/Maintenance Simplex (BSL/MFL)

The Subway Surface (Green) Lines, Norristown High Speed Line, regional buses, and associated supervision and service staff all use talkgroups on the trunked system (a Motorola Type II system). Trunked system frequencies are:

502.6125
502.4875
502.5375
502.5625
502.6375
502.7125
502.5875

Regional Rail Lines:

160.590 (input 161.460) SEPTA North Road (SEPTA-1, SEPTA-2, SEPTA-3)
160.590 (simplex) SEPTA North Conductor
161.460 (simplex) SEPTA North Road Simplex
160.380 (input 161.340) SEPTA City Road (SEPTA-4, SEPTA 5)
160.380 (simplex) SEPTA City Conductor
160.350 (input 161.750) SEPTA South Road (SEPTA-6, Rail Operations Center “ROC”)
160.350 (simplex) SEPTA South Conductor
160.395 (simplex) SEPTA Yard
160.635 (simplex) AMTRAK Harrisburg Road
160.920 (simplex) AMTRAK NEC Road
160.980 (simplex) CSX Road (old CR 4)
161.010 (simplex) AMTRAK NEC Road Trenton
161.070 (simplex) CSX Road (old CR 2)
160.290 (input 161.040) SEPTA Trouble Desk (Power, Signals, MOW)
160.290 (simplex) SEPTA MOW Talkaround

Does anyone know what the talkgroups are?
