C&NW 8646 & 8701 Stored at IRM

For those interested to know, the last pair of unpatched C&NW units, Dash9's 8646 and 8701 are currently being held at the Illinois Railway Museum. The duration of their stay is unclear. However, it is likely they will remain on the property stored serviceable at least thru Diesel Weekend in July. As of May 28th they were positioned along side the steam storage tracks by barn 9. Perfect for afternoon sun photography. Go out and get them while you can my friends.

As a quick post script, wouldn't 2009 be the end of their 15 year equipment trusts? They were built in 1994 so the math is right... Hmmm. I would be shocked to hear of their retirement, but an interesting prospect to ponder

Well the romance was short lived. The CNW Dash-9's have returned to action on the UP and have left the IRM property. They will be back for Diesel Weekend.
