I ran the title through Amazon, ABE Books, and Google, and came up with no references. Perhaps another member can supply a few more details.
The best contemporary novel with a railroad setting I've read in recent years is P. D. Deutermann's Train Man, (soft cover only, St Martin's Press, 2001) a thriller based on an atttempt to destroy all the major rail bridges on the Lower Mississippi. It correctly locates all the structures involved and takes very few technical liberties.
What a revoltin' development this is! (William Bendix)
