Then there was the time I believe very early 60's when the Port Morris Trainmaster got the brilliant idea to eliminate the Oxford Mine run with the Pburg Drill.
The road power lashup (usually 4 F's) on 2/HB-9 would run up the hill. On the first trip about 10 or 11 at night , there they were stalled behind St Rose of Lima Catholic Church between Mine Hill and Jonestown Road crossings, wheel slip bells ringing to beat the band, a profusion of sand, and... well they made the hill, brought the loads down - no, they didn't leave them in Oxford, took 14 - 18 to Portland. BH-12 brings them back the next morning to Washington.
This was the long way around in more ways they one and the experiment didn't last for very many trips and I suppose after the crew outlawed the explanation was probably more than the Trainmaster could bear.
