Can anybody say how serious the Rock Island were in getting to New Orleans? Eunice seems such a pointless place to end up, both for passengers and freight. The SP had its own line to Alexandria, and would have short-hauled itself if it switched freight for the Rock Island at Eunice.

Also, was there any scheme to build a line from St Louis to Little Rock, so as to make better sense of the other end as well? I notice that the ICC listed something called the "St Louis, Arkansas & Pacific" from 1913 to 1917, and wonder if this was a Rock Island subsidiary scheme killed by the First World War.
