With a few scattered examples of ex-MEC cabooses in the Garden State (at least four), wonder if an all-time roster was every created/published. With Athearn and Atlas coming out with HO versions, it would be great to compare for accuracy!!

MEC 645 is at BR&W, Ringoes.

MEC 670 is at SRNJ, Winslow Junction.

Where in Jersey are the other 2?

Hi Ian,

"MEC 676 is at Caboose Village, Tilton NH."

I'd posit that you posted the above caboose number from memory.

Surely you know that's a dangerous act, unless you're an elephant!

Cheers, Roger

Hehe. Well I help out with the NEGS caboose trains, so I remember most of the numbers from switching the cars. And 676 is owned by a friend of mine. :-D

Hi Ian,

That didn't seem to work out very well, so here are 2 additional questions:

Did the MEC have a caboose #676?

Is your friend Frank Judge, owner of MEC/FBJX 672?

Cheers, Roger

Wow...spaced on that...is been a long few days. Yes it is Franks 672. And I don think there was a newer one, as he beleives it was the last car purchased by the MEC.

Hi Turbo,

Quite true, I list that one as a WM caboose but should have remembered to list it as an MEC as well, so:

660 - ex-WM 1878, located as stated above.

661 - ex-WM 1904, Danbury RR Museum, Danbury, CT, from Canaan, CT.

662 - ex-WM 1804, Kimball Oil, Great Barrington, MA, from Canaan, CT.

663 - ex-WM 1838, David Ritz, Apalachin, NY.

664 - ex-WM 1837, Danbury RR Museum, Danbury, CT, from Canaan, CT.

Let's have some more additions and corrections!

Cheers, Roger

Caboose 603R is no longer in Hooksett. It was moved about 5 years ago to an unknown location.

Again, wonder if there was ever published a all-time caboose roster; it could be used to compare against all these replys, to see how many (especially those on the roster "at the end") are left..........It would be especially interesting to learn of their respective heritages!!
