Yes, that's correct. SP bought 70 of these and 95% of the S-6's that are still in service are former SP units.

Those number board lights, up on the hood, right in front of the cab another easy spotting feature.......

So the million dollar question is.......Do the ones in Texas have roller bearings or plain bearings. If they are rollers, people will be interested, if they are plain bearing there won't be much interest.

For $15 grand you're not gonna get roller bearings.

The only unit with RB trucks is one of the Holly Sugar units. ($110,000)

Here is a link showing the "other" Holly S-6 in 2006.
This is the one that has Friction Bearing trucks.

UPDATE: re: 2 Alco S-6 switchers in TX.

The company has had 15 inquires on these. There is a company from AL going to look at them Weds with the intention pf parting both of them out (darn shame too)
if he buys. Has offered more money than asking price.

If you want them move on them NOW!

I now have more photos of both of them if anyone wants to see them.

Trigen in Solvay, NY has 2 ALCO S6's #'s 1 & 2. #2 is in Service and was cleaned and serviced by Finger Lakes Railway and is used almost every day. The outher unit #1 is / was being used for parts supply. Here is a pic of #2 at the FGLK Yard in June 2006.

One would guess that these are former Southern Pacific units.

Take a look at the top of the page: it is indeed an SP unit, as discussed above.
