Excerpt from News Channel 13 story:
Rensselaer County Director of Public Safety Jay Wilson said there is no immediate danger to the public and no one, including two train engineers onboard, were injured. The cargo train was carrying 94 cars. Ten of them derailed, and one is in the Hoosic river, said Wilson.
Edit: later reports indicate two cars in the river.

Follow-up question: who is responsible for contracting and paying for the cleanup and restoration? PAS as track owner? BERX as operator? I presume a lawyer’s paradise will follow to determine financial responsibility, a process that might involve third parties.

Good question, if CSX had an incident while down in P&W's Worcester yard it would depend on the outcome of the investigation . If the CSX crew was at fault; runthrough switch .excessive buff force or such , CSX was on the hook . If it was determined to be a P&W error , they would pay . Or, I guess ,if multiple factors were at play the cost might be divided.

Apparently train was powered by NS Thoroughbreds and as derailed cars were loaded with cooking oil and plastic pellets, 94 car train must have been what NS would call 16R and B&E calls MOED.

The WNYT news report text got me thinking about **RAIL TERMINOLOGY** that is being used -

I have grown to STRONGLY DISLIKE the term "Train Cars" that is seemingly overused far too often...
To me is not only sounds or writes awkward - it really does NOT start to fully describe what RAIL CARS are...
What has happened to the term "Freight Cars" or "Freight Train" noting the European "Cargo Train" used?

If someone mentioned "Train Car(s)" to me I would come back with "What Type?" or "What Kind?"
"You have Passenger Cars and Freight Cars being the most common two types"
I would follow up with a brief description of a given RAIL CAR as identified...
No need to over-describe anything - short and right to the point...

Each car type has a specific name or description for the rail service that they provide as we all here know...
I would rather see "Rail Car" used generically over the dreaded and awkward-sounding term "Train Car"...
End of rant...

I would like to find a RR.Net Forum area or segment to have a discussion over rail terminology -
The overuse of "Train Cars" and becoming more noticeable is some terms with "Train" as part...
What happened (as example) to Railroad or Railway Tracks? "Train Tracks" is beginning to bother me...

If any moderators know where such a discussion would go or fit in please let me know -
