Hello,

I am currently an Assistant Conductor at Metro-North. I was interested in applying to an IT position with MTA HQ. I am wondering if there is a waiting period to transfer departments? Thanks!

Not certain about MNRR's policies, but those types of moves normally aren't blocked unless you have a contractual obligation (e.g. signing bonus) to stay in your position.

Worst case, apply and let HR tell you you can't do it.

Usually one year to apply for new positions within the MTA.

Please do understand that the MTA HQ jobs are NOT RR retirement, you will no longer be in the RRB system.

Assistant Conductor has a 3 year lock in period. HR always mentions that during interview process.

Thanks for your answer. Even if it is outside of Metro-North? What if it is with LIRR or Headquarters?

Then you would be leaving the company, and the restrictions would not apply.
