Hello,
It looks like another week of late-running 393/394s. Yesterday's 394 arrived to LJ around 0900; today's arrived around 0815. Today's 393 departed Island Pond at 1150 with the following:

RM-1 804
GP40-3 3804
QG SD40U 6904
19 tank cars
1 covered hopper
12 centerbeam flats
1 bulkhead flat
14 boxcars

That's 47 cars total, all empties.
Have a great day,
Fritz

Hello,
The road trains (393 and 394) continue to run late this week. Last night's SLR eastbound 394 was eastbound through Gorham 0600 this morning, and the SLQ westbound 393 didn't depart Island Pond until 1209 this morning:

GP40-3 3806
RM-1 806
14 boxcars
2 centerbeam flats
2 bulkhead flats
6 covered hoppers
45 tank cars

That's 69 cars total, including 2 loads and 67 empties, pulled by only two locomotives!
Have a great weekend,
Fritz

Seems like a roundabout routing; why not just hand it off with other SLR traffic at Southwark ?

I think it was an all CSX routing from St. Louis, the previous cam sighting west of Selkirk was on the Rochester Sub in Fairport, NY.

Time to bump the thread. Here are photos of SLR 3007 and 3008 on their way to Danville jct with 18 cars
for Panam and a new arrival ant the Lewiston Jct shop.

I had assumed that with a 3000 series number that QG3537 was another GP40 but I was wrong. It's been
quite a while since I'd heard a non-turbo 16-645 working

Hello,
In a lull between the rains, last night's SLQ eastbound 394 arrived in Island Pond at 1910 with the following:

GP40-3 3805
RM-1 805
GP40-2 3047
1 centerbeam flat
24 tank cars
2 covered hoppers
18 boxcars

That's 45 cars total, including 41 loads and 4 empties.

Over the last two months, SLQ has been running Wednesday turns from Richmond to Island Pond (returning light engine) fairly regularly to clear out the yard in Richmond. As of last night, there were quite a few cars waiting to go east on two tracks in the yard at Island Pond.
Have a great weekend,
Fritz

There was a run west out of Lewiston Jct on Wednesday March 30 with an early morning March 31 return.
I thought it would be interesting if they ran again this past Wednesday but I got distracted and don't know
if that happened or not.

This link was posted in another forum to a story by Richard Glueck reminiscing about hanging out
at the South Paris station in his youth 50 years ago. My time there started about 1969 with a similar
experience. GT freight clerk Jean LeBlanc was a family acquaintance and also instructor for the Boy
Scout railroad merit badge. He and operator Guy Pomerleau introduced me to many other GT
employees and altogether to my railroad oriented corruption. It's unfortunate those experiences
no longer exist for younger generations. The station, while currently owned by the auto dealership
across the street, has been in use as a ice cream shop for quite some time now and is a popular
place in the evening during warm weathe

Hello,
We finally made it trackside to see a train and, appropriately enough, caught the Quebec-bound SLQ westbound 393 for la Fete Nationale St. Jean de Baptiste (a big holiday in Quebec):

RM-1 805
GP40-3 3805
GP40-2 3007
QGRY SD40U 6904
6 centerbeam flats
20 boxcars
10 tank cars
27 cement hoppers

That's 63 cars total, including 1 load and 62 empties. None of the boxcars were the SLR boxcars seen heading the train in Greg's last photo. Those are interesting as they are very uncommon through Island Pond anymore.
Stay cool!
Fritz
