Even though the article is paywalled, I have heard people mention the transport of goods in Queens in Brooklyn, specifically via tunnel to New Jersey due to increased freight transport. One must speculate what possible expansions and industries are interested in new or restored service via freight spurs. Does anyone here have any ideas? (How about Riverhead Lumber in Port Jeff)

I think it was Snoozeday about a week ago was talking about the impending closure of the landfills for Brookhaven and Babylon, and they mentioned rail was one of the few options to deal with the mess.

For the landfill in Babylon, are you referring to One World Recycling?

AFAIK One World is Construction/Demolition debris like Coastal.
