While looking at various pictures of Newtown in the 1960s and 1970s, it seems like there were always RDCs occupying the wye.

In those cases, how did outbound freights work the facing point sidings without a runaround? ETTs show the closest passing siding at Southampton, but that would be a long way to push a cut of cars all the way to Newtown!

At least in the early 1960s, there was still a passing siding at George School. Newtown wye could only hold 5 passenger cars at the station platform. Additional cars from a longer train were dropped there in the evening and retrieved in the morning, so the siding had to be double ended.
