Should Ohio be funded for more routes, Hamilton may get an Amtrak stop:

CSX has agreed not to tear down the train station at 432 Martin Luther King Blvd. for a year, historians and others were told at a recent meeting Mayor Pat Moeller convened to mobilize efforts to save the station.

“They’ve got an agreement with CSX to not start demolition for another year,” said Tim Spoonster, who has researched the station’s history and was among history advocates and others who attended the meeting.

Advocates of increased passenger-train routes hope Congress will approve capital spending that would allow five more routes in Ohio, including more stops in Butler County for a route linking Cincinnati with Indianapolis and Chicago, and another connecting Cincinnati with Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland.

One possible location for the move would be Symmes Park, two blocks west of the current location, said Spoonster, who wrote a history of the station at the mayor’s request. The rail next to the park, which is located between Third and Fourth streets, is on the route between Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Both Oxford and Hamilton are hoping Amtrak will add stops in their cities if routes are expanded.

Would the proposed CLE-CMH-DAY-CIN service actually pass through Hamilton? If so it (and Middletown) seem natural intermediate stops

We know the Cardinal passes through Oxford without stopping, is the same true for Hamilton?

Hamilton and Oxford are not stops on the Cardinal but it passes through. Both those towns would be good candidates for Amtrak stations whether being served by the Cardinal or other state supported trains. Ohio definately needs good state supported rail service. You have blocks of suburban and urban areas mixed in with a lot of rural areas for several miles.

CIN-CHI is a leisurely 9:30h on the Cardinal. With 2 trains sets you could have tags either before CIN or beyond CHI centered on:
CIN 7:00 ET
CHI 15:30 CT

CHI 7:00 CT
CIN 17:30 ET

Great! Now which State is willing to subsidize those two regional trains; IL, IN, or OH? Which of those States will be willing to fund the EIS so a twice daily service can begin? How many times does someone have to say no money = no service?

The idea of the current Amtrak plan, as I understand it is that the feds cover Year 1 and Year 2 of what would otherwise be the state contribution. What’s your understanding?

And thats where 90% of these proposals die.

"12 months no interest no minimum payment" sounds great until the bill comes due in Month 13.....

Totally agree. The whole "expansion" plan is flawed, IMO. Re Ohio: didn't the governor just propose a transportation cut in the budget?

In previous quote, CSX said it would wait a year before demolishing depot. When did the clock start?

In Ashtabula, CSX did hold off for quite awhile, but efforts did not come through. Yes, there were impossible requirements by CSX such as moving the structure off property [how and how much cost?]. Are there such requirements in Hamilton?
