0250-0450/04-23-2021 was another trip of compromised receptions and -- as will be seen -- not just for me.
0255 was the start of intermittent Yard Channel garbles, most likely car countdowns, things getting temporarily clearer at 0322 with "? to a stop, AYPO," more about whom later.
Garbled countdowns were again the short-term mode, and at 0322, the 333 WLs were dark, as would be the 334 1 stagger, the 334 ELs being at Stop, ditto for the 335 ELs at 0329. The west got bright, and 22K -- another more about whom later -- with NSs 6953, 6971, and ???? plus 51 all-occupied well and table positions got east of the ELs at 0332, 0333 being when "AY-5, far enough" got heard, naught else getting heard to, from, or about AY-5 or -- to save suspense -- AY-3, AY-4, AE-01, EDPO/POED, FI-3, or Q426/7. What did get heard was a once-only D-3 reach-out to BO-2 at 0335, the prelude for more garble.
Up Da Hill, the 345s were dark and the yard MT. At the start of the EB leg of the trip at 0347 and while I was on the Pearson Boulevard rotary, D-3 reached out brokenly to 22K with no further immediate development. The steel for the Rte. 2 OHBs coulda contributed to reception difficulties.
At 0354, a breaking somebody would call out whatever the ELs for Derby were showing, a likely candidate being 22K. This would be the start of a spell of radio silence, at least for me.
At 0356, the 333 WLs were dark, and further east, the 330.8 WBs were at Clear and the 330 WLs and ELs all at Stop. In between the dark GL and FG WLs, somebody started getting heard doing car countdowns. 0409 was when the FI-1/2 parking spot was MT cuz KCIR 5948 was hauling a coupla covered hoppers WB outta East Side.
Post refueling stop, the sounds of FI-2 doing the old back and forth would continue while I was in range. 0421 was when the EB staggers foe Derby were dark and radio silence again went in effect for me.
At 0429, the silence got broken when D-3 answered FI-2 and next said that the Fitchburg radio was down and to give him a call on the phone. Things got radioactive again at 0433 when D-3 answered AYPO, advised he was ready to copy, rogered "all that," OKd them on signal indication down the East Wye, and then advised that there were no changes in speeds.
A spell of quiet got broken at 0446 when D-3 called out to 22K and them repeated it. 0448 was when D-3 told 22K it was OK to start pulling down. This -- again -- was repeated, D-3 then asking if they could hear him on "this tower." Naught further got to me by 0450, so dunno, and if you want to, re-cue the jaymac Radio Rant.
As of 0450, no X7.8 crossing noise, so dunno about Q426/7.

"A gray crossover is definitely not company transportation."
