Some were into Danforth Sunday night on 907, have yet to see word of them on 251. Apparently a fair block of baretable wells on yesterday's 250.

Edit: the first block of containers on today's 251, shot by Frank Jolin:

A Maersk ship, the PATRAS, is tentatively scheduled to hit SJ on 3/25.

We'll keep an eye on this one, if it hits Montreal too (pending strike action) as this service used to hit Montreal & Halifax (both CN) but now that the contract is CP, perhaps they swapped out Halifax for SJ.

Also to note, Maersk hasn't been consistently calling Halifax as of late (skipped the last few weeks) and CP is advertising the start of weekly service soon... but I would have thought the Hapag stuff would be first to come? Shipfax is a great blog that chronicles the shipping activity at Halifax. http://shipfax.blogspot.com/2021/02/msc ... p-for.html

So CP has a chance to shine here and win more ships to SJ. Did the port and CP quickly move the hapag boxes off the last ship without delay or trouble?

No setoffs for customs and all but a 3-pack of wells were off the dock and cleared in 3 days. They only took dry cargo, no reefers, and 7500' of Hapag traffic only (none of the Maersk boxes were set). Id guess about 200 FEUs moved, much less than the 1500 FEUs per week they were buzzing along with during the initial diversions.

The PoM situation doesn't have any resolution yet and the collision course for a next strike is the current trajectory. Then again, these tend to have an 11th hour agreement, so there is still 9 days until the truce expires.

Maersk is switching dry goods over to CP on remaining lanes effective March 31st from CN, whereas CN still handles reefers for now. CP is likely to add some trains out of the West Coast, and this trial if it goes well I'm told would be June start for SJ traffic. At this point, no reason to believe it won't go well and I'm sure it's priced right.

Thanks for the info! Track work season is about a month away so we’ll see if CP continues the upgrade blitz from last fall

Can the container terminal at SJ only handle 1 ship at a time right now? At present one container ship is moored and a 2d is waiting in the anchorage. These ships are not on the transatlantic route

The first CP 142 extended from Montreal ran over the Moosehead last night on the 250 schedule. Not sure if this will stick, but it's in parallel with the Maersk Penang test ship. Has a good amount of intermodal for the ship and should have another 142 tonight out of MTL.

Hopefully someone captures it on the Maine side traversing during the day, or on the NBSR side tonight for the final leg.

MaineTrainChaser captured it moving east on the Moosehead:

Lots of single stack 20' containers.

Very nice video! There was a single EMP domestic cube container trailing the ship-bound containers and a few auto racks, too. Looks like CP is doing a decent job developing the business on this route. I'm guessing MAS in Maine is still 25mph?

This is a trial of Transatlantic service from Maersk, more details: https://www.maersk.com/news/articles/20 ... nada-cargo

You can't double stack 4x20', they can only ride on the bottom as 2x20' and capped off with a 40' or bigger box. That is probably why all the singles, because they are cleaning out the remaining 20's.

No impact to SJ from Suez crisis.

40MPH is speeds from Boundary? to Tarratine crossing. The crossings that have activated warning systems in between are 25 since the circuits have not yet been extended and of course Jackman is slow for the border crossing and crew change.

Actually the day before it slipped by but about 100 containers, mostly doubles and some singles made it across but no one reported it until it hit NBSR on the early morning hours. All MAERSK boxes as well (no 2M or CMA boxes). Some containers have arrived as well via CN to SJ from their inland points, I believe they still have the refeer traffic and CP has only dry goods as of now.

We'll see how well this works... Hapag has not yet scheduled a regular service, but the new Transatlantic service schedules are due out in April.

The last question is will the 142/143 change stick long term or not. I believe it will-- creating the advertised 24/48/72 hours to MTL/TOR/CHI as that is the only train service that carries that capability at the moment. Or perhaps a new '100' series symbol as 142/143 tend to run in two sections now. In any case, it bodes well for improved service, and hopefully more domestic containers out of Toronto and Chicago.

I am told CP is waiting for more trackwork before sending DPUs over the Moosehead, but you can expect that to come after this year's work.
