We are sorry to inform you that the Northern Explorer will not be resuming service in time for you to use your current booking.
We’re continuing to evaluate the financial viability of our passenger services and no decision has been made about the return of the Northern Explorer.
Covid-19 has taken a heavy toll on tourism everywhere and unfortunately, like other tourism providers, KiwiRail and the communities we serve have suffered the impact.
As this is not the experience we wish to deliver to our passengers we would like to offer the following options:
• Full refund of your fare paid (excluding credit card fees).
Or
• Full credit to use within 12months towards a new journey when our service returns.
All refunds will go back to the original form of payment of your booking:
• If you have paid by credit card on our website you do not need to do anything to claim your refund as this will be done automatically within 30 working days.
• If you have paid by online banking on our website, please respond to this email with your booking reference number and a copy of your bank deposit slip or screen shot of your online bank account which clearly shows your name and account number.
Please simply reply to this email and advise your option.
We are anticipating a high volume of phone calls, please simply reply to this email if you wish to contact us regarding your booking.
Finally, we apologize for the short notification and for any inconvenience that the change to this service may cause.
