Can anyone tell me where a typical freight train crew would travel during their work day? I know the tracks go west out of Nashville toward Bruceton and Memphis-where would the crew lay over if the went that direction? What town? And out of Nashville I think the tracks go to Chattannoga-is this correct? What town would the crew lay over in if they went this direction? Any comments ----for a future newbie would help!

Thanks

I'm not from your area, but I did a web search for CSX out of Nashville.

It looks like a crew could run as far as Chattanooga TN (151 miles), Evansville IN (159 miles), Birmingham AL (206 miles) or Louisville KY (186 miles).

It appears the CSX Nashville Division operates as follows:

Nashville Division
CE&D Subdivision -- [51250111xx] -- Woodland, IL to Evansville, IN
Chattanooga Subdivision-C8 -- Nashville, TN to Chattanooga, TN
Evansville Terminal Subdivision -- [51250111xx] -- Evansville, IN
Henderson Subdivision -- [51250121xx] -- Evansville, IN to Nashville, TN
Nashville Terminal Subdivision -- [51250108xx] -- Nashville, TN
S&NA North Subdivision-SN -- [51250108xx] -- Nashville, TN to Birmingham, AL

Plus the Louisville Division
Main Line Subdivision-ML -- Louisville, KY to Nashville, TN

All I know is they are non-existent up this way. There is only one railroad cop between Selkirk,Ny & Boston,Ma (200 miles).......not to mention all of the other lines branching off in other directions. :(
