In the history of the Central's acquisitions of other railroads, was there any case where they were thwarted by another railroad or the govt.

While the NYC wasn't thwarted in its purchase of 51% of the NKP, Pres SMITH sure was reportedly thwarted by the 1914 CLAYTON ACT, and sold the RR to the VanSweringen brothers....LARRY BAGGERLY

May 16, 1922: ICC authorizes NYC to purchase Chicago River & Indiana
Railroad and lease Chicago Junction Railway controlling access to
Chicago Union Stock Yards district. This was only after a big lawsuit by the other Chicago-area railroads claiming NYC would control the stockyards.
