Maybe we'll see it posing on the Tunkhannock Viaduct soon.

Just saw the Monongahela heritage unit on a coal train in Bow, NH.

I am told there will not be, unless they find a way around trademark law. NS did not buy the rights to the D&H name, or its registered trademarks, when they bought the former D&H properties from CP.

Not exactly a heritage unit, but the choice of D&H colors seems like it might be more than just a coincidence...

Apologies for the dead link; apparently the photo has been deleted. I'm not sure why.

I think SOU 3170 and EL 1700 are some of my favorites of the entire heritage program. Did NS ever give a reason why the railroad did these two extra heritage restorations in some type of press release or website announcement?

NS 64T (loaded ethanol train to Port Richmond) was tired down at Stowe Yard in Pottstown, PA this morning. Leading on the train was NS 1068 (Erie Heritage) and NS 4000 (DC to AC conversion).

Here's a link to a few pictures from today:

Saturday, at BNSF Murray Yard, North KC, MO, I saw a unit as a coal train pusher.

It was scarlet red, with a yellow stripe. In the stripe was "Norfolk & Southern".

So that's not N&W, that's not Southern, and that's not C&O or B&O that I'm aware of.

Anyone got an idea? I'm a West Coast boy, and only had to track UP, SP, and ATSF

I'll remind some of us (myself included) and inform others that today's NS originated from the 1982 merger of those two roads. But the name you saw on the stripe confirms its identity as NS heritage unit 8114, and refers to the Norfolk and Southern railroad that dates back to the 1880s. Through mergers, acquisitions, and several trips in and out of receivership, it eventually turned out the be the "original" Norfolk Southern Railway, until it was purchased by Southern Railway in 1974 and merged into another railroad with the NS name retained.

That was the quick wiki summary. For more detail...

THANKS!

Now for today's question: In honor of the Lawmen, do you think they'll ever do a pair of locomotives?

-NS #911 "9-1-1" (SD60E) was rebuilt from #6577 (SD60) in 2014 I believe, and painted in the "Honoring First Responders" scheme. I actually saw it in person for the first time this past Monday 3/6 at the intermodal yard in Morrisville, PA. It lead in on NS 24K:

Cab detail shot:

Probably the closest to a "Lawmen" tribute locomotive as NS is going to do for now.
