While driving through the Lehigh gap I noticed that NS has started to replace the old CNJ search light wayside signals. Two new installations are clearly visible from PA route 248. Anyone know the scope of the project?

I wonder if this is all part of standardizing signals for the upcoming "Positive Train Control" stuff that is to be implemented?

I'm not a railroader......but CSX has been replacing signals up here and eliminating the old NYC signals (and signal bridges) in
New York State. NS has replaced up bunch of the old Erie signals on "The Tier" as well.

The all look the same--the "Darth Vader" visors on them! :-/
