Rumor has it based on a CSX NE / B&E railfan FaceBook page posting that RJ Corman is mustering resources to the Portsmouth branch and the burned trestle section could be repaired within 2 weeks. Fingers crossed.

RJ Corman rail crews were already down there doing the rail on the branch. They had to truck the equipment to the otherside of the bridge so they could do more rail installations

Bridge Update from Neighbor near trestle:

I met Robert Fulsang, Director of Structure Northern Zone Bridge, this afternoon. He will be leading the rebuild of the bridge. Starting Monday morning, Dec 9, there will be a lot of action on the tracks. 5 barges will be coming in and contracted employees of CSX as well as environmental advisors will be on the tracks. The will rebuild the bridge in wood within the next 2-3 weeks!!!!!

CSX will be entering the tracks near Sandy Point. I have told them that it is private property at the end of the path and #15 and 17 leach fields are in the flat area. The port-a-potty belongs to the the environmental advisors. I have asked that to be removed. They will be strict on trespassers on the track as it is property of CSX.

Robert did say the bridge is NOT safe. No one should walk on it at this point.

No time being wasted on this one. This is an example of what can be done when the companies you contract with know that bills will get paid.... :-)

kinda makes you wonder what wouldve happened with all the other branch lines that were allowed to rot until all the customers were scared off. a little effort on the railroads part and things may look a little different.

I know this in a remote area but does anybody here have updates on trestle reconstruction?

Not too sure on the progress but I have seen them out there day and night so they are certainly actively working on it.

Here are a couple of photos I took today, one facing North from 108 and the other South from Moody Point.

North - http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=281201
South - http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=281202

nerail.org restricts the size of the photos I can upload so if anyone wants the full size image drop me a message with your email and I will get them to you.

Is that the track that Grimmel's used to use?

Looking at the map, they must be referring to the main track that continues up to the propane place where it crosses market st
That little spur into the port doesn’t cross the road but the main track does

Indeed, google maps currently shows market st closed today at the crossing

So just over two weeks to go from a burnt-out bridge to running traffic normally again (on a local branch). Very nice job, CSX.
