my first guess would be the 77

3614,3018,3022 are getting done up. I had heard the high noses were getting chopped and painted in blk/yel. I have not heard anything about getting more alco's unless its just for parts.
The 636's have the Alco 251 plus engines in them. I see no reason for the railroad to buy anything else as far as parts go as it would like going backwards. 251+ parts are stronger tthan regular 251 engine parts.

Why would they re-motor the parts donor? I think the 3660 would be first to get the special treatment. Once all the other 636s are up and working, they may consider rebuilding the 3662. Until then, I think not.

As far as I know, the 77 is the only 636 needing a engine due to freeze damage. The other parts can be replaced also.

3668 did lead the 100 to Ridgefield park, but on the way back on the 99 it was shut down.

ALGX (Amsterdam Leasing) C-420 7221 (ex Erie Mining, LTV) and ALGX CF-7 583 (ex Amtrak and ATSF) are both still available. But Ed Bowers is not ALGX, as perhaps suggested by sallenparks. Also, 7221 is still in Erie Mining paint and lettering, not LV. The colours are similar to some of the LV schemes, though.

There is no such thing as a "251 Plus" engine. "251 plus" only refers to components, primarily pistons and heads I think. The engine itself, other than these components, is still a "251". And "251 plus" components can be applied to any 251 model variant engine (i.e., 251B, 251F etc).

According to Bombardier, the improved version of the engine IS called the"251 PLUS" which includes many beefed up componets. Yes, they can be applied to earlier versions of the 251.
I direct you to read the page from the Hitachi Brochure:

There appears to be a number of variations of 251 PLUS engines out in the field.

The complete 251 PLUS package also incorporates re-designed fuel pump supports, a redesigned camshaft of unit construction and an additional camshaft support bearing.

There is also a 'heavy wall' block design and various turbocharger options-Globe (Alco design), GE dual outlet (with dual intercoolers) and GE single outlet (utilizes the original Alco-design aftercooler).

The GE turbos have the speed sensor that enables a retrofit of the original control equipment with GE 'Brightstar' (microprocessor) equipment.

Could the M630 located in NJ? be a possible 'organ donor' to one of the NYSW units ?

The donor is the 3662 aka 77.
