I don't know if this is relevant to this discussion, but wasn't there an interurban line that ran more or less parallel with the Bergen County Line years ago? Could that be what was seen?

North Jersey Rapid Transit (circa 1908-28) ran thru Fair Lawn basically on McBride Ave (by Nabisco) then up to Harristown Rd where it crossed over the Bergen Line.

To my knowledge, there are virtually no remnants of the old line. I recall a number of years ago you could see two tracks on either side of Franklin Tpk about 1000 ft (maybe more) past the Maple Ave crossing. A lot of the old line seems to be "owned" by PSE&G.

NJRT is quite evident after almost 80 years after abandonment.
From the end of McBride Ave (n of 208 all the way to Franklin Tpke in Mahwah the ROW is quite intact and even mostly a bike trail. Other than the rails preserved in the sidewalks both sides of Franklin Tpk in Ho-Ho-Kus and the foundations of the carbarn nearby, a bridge in Ridgewood, some culverts in Ramsey, not much else visible other than the ROW.

Where is the bridge in Ridgewood? I'd like to see it!

Did it carry the tracks or did the tracks run underneath?
