Discussion relating to the past and present operations of the NYC Subway, PATH, and Staten Island Railway (SIRT).

The New York Times just published a lengthy article on the impact of decades of funding cuts to NYC's subways.
But the problems plaguing the subway did not suddenly sweep over the city like a tornado or a flood. They were years in the making, and they might have been avoided if decision makers had put the interests of train riders and daily operations ahead of flashy projects and financial gimmicks.
Mods, if there's a better thread for this, please move it there.

Let it be noted that in the Sunday print edition, with worldwide circulation almost double that of weekdays, the noted article appears "front page - above the fold".

All told, what a chronicle of mismanagement, misdirected priorities, and a cow being milked for unrelated activities.
