Mr Norman, on the Amtrak forum, just posted a note that NY Times articles back to 1851 (when the paper was founded) are available online. Also, if you are a Times Select member, you can get 100 free articles per month. I found some wonderful DL&W and Erie articles, from the nineteenth century, at first glance. I downloaded one so far; they are in PDF format and can be saved to your hard drive.
You automatically get Times Select for free if you get home delivery of the Times. If you don't get home delivery, you can join for some fee. However, right now the Times is offering a free 14 day trial of Times Select; you just have to go to their website and sign up.
