It was recently stated on the LocoNotes group on Yahoo that MMA may be getting some new locos... seven B23-7s, allegedly. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Hey MEC407. Thanks for the heads up. I posted an inquiry on the MMA railfans group. I got two responces, either the units are former BNSF or 7 ex-Conrail units from Rail Swap (Which just coincidentally has 7 units for sale. No word on whether they've been sold though). I do believe it is a positive that the units were sold to the MMA. We'll find out soon!

About a year ago, somebody on the MMA group said that MMA was looking for more B23s. Perhaps they finally found some that were to their liking. :-)

The BNSF units mentioned were up for auction around the beginning of May. I've heard that the MMA has placed bids on several sets of B23s over the past year or so, but has always come up short. Sounds like this time they got em.

While we are on the subject, what does the MMA roster look like? I have only seen photos of the B39-8s (ex LMX) but am not sure on the full extent. Can anyone elaborate?

During the winters, the MMA has often leased several of the CDAC F40s which have been stored at Derby. These units are getting shipped off soon though.

Hope this covers things.

Mr. Bruce Mercer of the LocoNotes group reported today that the following BNSF units are headed for Derby:

> BNSF 4207 DERBY ME
> BNSF 4224 DERBY ME
> BNSF 4231 DERBY ME
> BNSF 4237 DERBY ME
> BNSF 4243 DERBY ME
> BNSF 4252 DERBY ME

A relatively complete MMA roster can be found online at:

http://www.rrnne.net/RRNNE%7E2/MMA/MMA% ... index.html

It's a couple of years old, but the "active locomotives" section is still pretty accurate for the most part.

Here are the previously-mentioned ex-Conrail B23s that are up for sale:

And some have said the MMA isn't doing very well. Well for a RR that supposedly isn't doing well, they sure are picking up a lot of newer equipment!
Once again, thanks MEC407.
Lets dream a bit here...
You don't think they'd be picking up more units because they bought CSX trackage? Is there a loco shortage? I know they got rid of some F40's, but is that enough to warrant them to buy new units?

4207 is Yellow
4224 is Yellow
4231 is Orange
4237 is Yellow
4243 is Yellow
4252 is Orange

Wasn't there a 7th unit?
Thanks and sorry for the Double post

It could be a combination of factors. It might be because of the acquisition of the CSX line, and it might also be because they tend to have occasional power shortages, especially in the winter. Another possibility is that they may have some situations where they'd prefer to use something smaller and lighter than a C30 or B39.

You know I was thinking its too bad that the MMA didn't get any of the C39-8 Camels that NS and CSX got rid of. I would have loved to have seen some of those units up this way! Oh well... Hopefully we'll have more information as soon as we can!

"Newer" equipment? Aren't these engines like 25-30 years old?

  by CN9634

Newer to the railroad. Basically when you talk about a Shortline or Regional anything that is new power is 20-30 years old.
