It seems that the newest equipment VIA uses on this route is either an LRC or a P42

That would be because that IS the newest equipment they have(save the nightstar cars). The rebuilt SS cars are basically new as well. If one were to compare equipment age by full rebuild date, as well build date for the newer stuff, Via would technically have a very modern fleet. Nothing is older than early 90's
