The 20Bs are now in the Fresh Pond road power rotation; the pair was on the RS40/80 yesterday, and is currently working the RS40 on the Central as we speak.

Surprised if they don't have LED headlights. I thought they were kind of standard nowadays on new equipment. But I'm almost sure you won't see alternating ditch-lights. They don't exist on LIRR. Rules are apparently all 3 headlights on steady at all times.

FRA rules does not require the blinking feature, but if not so equipped, the headlights including ditch lights must be on and dimmable.
LIRR probably wants all trains to show same and not confuse the feeble minded Long Island motorist.

LED headlights/ditch are not all that great. Very narrow straight beam. Kind of like a horse with blinders. See very well dead straight, look a inch to the left or right, complete darkness.

Dutch, aren't railroads allowed to shut off the ditch-lights in territory without grade crossings? I often see Amtrak and SEPTA with just the top headlight on along the Northeast Corridor. Anyway I like LIRR's procedure with all lights on all the time. Consistency is a good thing.

negative, ditch lights are required anytime railroad orders you to have bright headlights on.
it is not only crossings but roadway worker protection. w
when Auxiliary headlights are not flashing they must be on all time when headlights are required.

(f) Auxiliary lights required by paragraph (d) of this section shall be continuously illuminated immediately prior to and during movement of the locomotive, except as provided by railroad operating rules, timetable or special instructions, unless such exception is disapproved by FRA. A railroad may except use of auxiliary lights at a specific public highway-rail grade crossing by designating that exception in the railroad's operating rules, timetable, or a special order. Any exception from use of auxiliary lights at a specific public grade crossing can be disapproved for a stated cause by FRA's Associate Administrator for Safety or any one of FRA's Regional Administrators, after investigation by FRA and opportunity for response from the railroad.

So from the YouTube vids, it seems that they are very quiet as well as more environmentally friendly. Is the rebuilt MP15 (forgot which number) also as quiet after the rebuild by NS?

If enough PR20B's show up,would NY&A return,or LIRR recall the remaining GP38-2's back to Morris Park??

For each new loco NYAR gets, one is returned to LIRR. So far 105 & 106 have been repainted in LIRR colors and will be returned once 105 is completed.

Also as of now, no more PR20Bs will be made until a tier 4 engine is developed for the locomotive.

That spec sheet that tj48 linked to shows that cat prime mover can meet tier 3 or tier 4 specs depending on
the exhaust treatment system that's installed.
Believe the shop that built these units is remanufacturing a bunch of METRA F40's currently.
