Where are all the surplus 8400's going now?

Probably back too UP.

8584 and 8581 were both removed from there respective UP west consists. 8584 was mid-train on number 47; it was replaced with an 8400. 8581 was on the end of a 5-car trainset; it was replaced by 8419.

Well, the UP 8500 days are over...And watch as we get the junked up BN rejects.

Well, today in Wheaton, all I saw was normal K5LAs. Was the same with yesterday.

Hey, take a look at your video of trains 47 and 62. That trainset is 132/8458/8405. Does 8458 indeed have a K5LA?

8604 is in service on BNSF. I believe it was on train #1259 (5:04) departure today.

8604 has actually been in service since last Wednesday or Thursday. Its on train #1220 (6:37 Aurora departure) in the morning and train #1269 (5:26) in the afternoon. Also, many of the 8580 series are now on the point on BNSF trains.

8542 is sitting at Western Ave. with plastic over 5 of the lower windows? Anybody know what happened?

  by AMTK84

In December 2004 8542 hit a truck at Spalding RD. on train number 2248. They were doing about 70 MPH at the time.

Thanks. It sure is taking a while to repair.

8604 has been delievred to the BNSF.

As was noted above. BTW, 8458 has a complete K5LA. This should answer the question of,"Will UP put the K5LAs back together when they get their 8400s back?" Yes they will.

8605 is now in service on BNSF. However, it is posisitioned mid-train on a 11-car consist and it leads a couple of mid-day trains.

Well, 8448 sounds extremely 3-chime to me, I saw it tonight on UP-W train number 58 and it sounded horible.

According to a BNSF Conductor who I was talking to the new Cab-Cars are causing problems with the Cab-Car setting off something in the units.
