The most recent new cab cars that have gone to BNSF (8583, 8586, 8599, and 8600) are now running and still have silver plows. I don't know why BNSF paints the plows red on its 8400's and 8500's. 8447, 8448, 8450, and 8458, which all came to BNSF from UP when the latter initially started receiving 8500's all had their plows painted red. And who knows if those four 8400's will stay where they're at or if they'll go back to UP.

BNSF must have just painted 8450's plow, it was silver during its 2 month run on SWS. I think 790's and 8200's can pull off a good look with red plows, but I don't think the look goes with 8400's and 8500's.

Cab car 807 was leading today's Metra's BNSF 1290, assigned to the 7-car set for today's 1265/1290/1287 trains. It is increasingly apparent on this route that old is starting to make way for the new, and as a result, the Budd cab car era has begun a slow fade into history...

I wonder what will become of those Budd control cars? They're not all that old. Right now, a lot of the 800's are being used as trailers and an 8400 or 8500 is behind it. But on that particular 7-car trainset, an 800 has led and 8466 is in front and that set up has been in place since May.

8602, 8601 and 418 were headed eastbound through Wood Dale around 12:05pm yesterday (7/18/2005). Must have been out stretching their legs as they looked dark inside and I didn't see any passengers.

8601 and 8602 are now the 2 rear cars of a 6-car BNSF consist. I'll be riding in one of those two cars tomorrow morning.

Is that by chance the consist that runs as the 6:20 PM out of Aurora on weekdays?

8581 is on the end of a 6-car UP west consist, wheels in great shape. Now all of the remaining 8500's are in trainsets that run on UP west every cupple of days (8578 is on numbers 32/55, 8579 is in a 5-car rotation, 8581 is on a 6-car rotation, 8582 is on numbers 18/47/62/71, 8584 is in one of the 4-car set rotations, and 8585 is also in the 4-car rotation).

What are the 6100's going up to? 6191/6192?

8603 and 8604 were delivered to 14th St. today.

Well guys,

8578 was removed from the consist of trains 32/55 yesterday, to be replaced by 8423, which had flat spots. Well, it was cool while it lasted... My question is where is 8578 now? Has anyone seen it at 14th Street or on a BN train?

8578 will most likely go to the BNSF or the Rock.

  by AMTK84

Yes, it likely will at some point. But what I'm wondering is where it is now...

8578 is mid-train on a 10-car BNSF consist with 8583 bringing up the rear. It replaced 8478 which was previously mid-train on that same consist.
