there is a rumor in Charlotte that CSX is looking at double tracking its Charlotte-Monroe tracks up to the Pincoa terminal. While the double tracking is still clearly in the rumor phase, they have changed the design specifications of the Charlotte NS/CSX grade separation project to accommodate double track in the new trench just before construction begins.
If they really do it it will be expensive, there are lots of single track bridges on the 25 mile route.
