Alright, I've got my spray booth done (finally) and need some help with the NYSW units I'm doing.

What color should I use for the yellow?

What kinds of air horns do the 2012, 3040, 3618, and 2064 have?

Do the 2012 and 3040 have the dynamic brake T vents?

Thanks, guys!

What yellow to use is a good question................I have never seen it offered in hobby shops, maybe someone else can shed light.

Some good photos here.......

Hope that helps a bit, Andy.

At the model train store in the caboose at Wortendyke (if it is still there) has good advice.

One of their contacts "kitbashed" a Lionel GP20 into a NYS&W GP18.

the caboose is now a hotdog stand.

Larry has gone "on line." If you look at the thread about Railroaded in Cooperstown, the reference to Larry's Trains is the same Larry at the caboose.

Great guy, great collection of NYS&W photos.

I'm off to the hobby shop tomorrow. Thanks for the help. Now about the air horns, here's what I've got:

3636- P5 mounted on the engineeres side of the carbody, just behind the dynamic brake area.

3618- NS style K5 on the conductors side in front of the radiators?

2064- Same as 3618?

2012- K5HR24 on the dynamic brake vent? Or was that the 3040...

3040- K5HR24 on the dynamic brake vent? Or was that the 2012...

BTW- I'm going for what they have currently. Hopefully I'll see one of them in town tomorrow.

What horns are on 1804 and the SD70s?

 #416004  by ANDY117

IIRC 1804 has P5R24s, and the SD70s had K5LAR24s.

B40-8s had NS K5HR24s?

Andy-

The 2012 has a P5 and 3040 has a K5H. Both have had their horns relocated from the cab to the mid section of the dynamic brake.

The 3618 now has a K5LA. But If you are modeling SusieQ from a older era, 3618 had two sets of S3L's, one on the cab and one hanging off of the rear, both all bells foward. I have some pictures of it around 97' if you want to see.

2064-P5, but this was when I last saw it, so it could have changed.

All of the horns are available with most of the bells in the correct position, except the P5. Overland makes one, but not for sale. Details Associates makes a P5, but you have to build it, and it would only be correct for the 1800 and the 2012, due to the two different styles of mounting brackets of the P5(new/old casts)

Btw, you excited about the SD40T-2's and eventually the F45 from Athearn?

i have to look up the email i got from a NYSW engineer when i asked what horns were on the tunnel motors and the rebuilt sd40-2's.

But does anyone know whey they relocate the horns to the sides of the long hood or in the middle from where they originally were on the roof?

It reduces the sound and vibration for the crew.
