My impression is that the Milwaukee District West line was Milwaukee Road for most of its history. I'm not sure if that was the original builder, though.

Apparently "Atlantic & Pacific" was its charter name, and "Chicago & Pacific" by the time of construction. I think C&P is still referred to in some ways, and C&M ("Chicago & Milwaukee") for the north line. "Chicago & Evanston" was the beloved collection of branches running past Goose Island and Wrigley Field, part of which became part of the CTA Evanston line. All consolidated during the late 1800s round of mergers and reorganizations.

That may have actually been built by the MILW, and dates from 1873.

The junction at A-5 that splits the C&M from the Savannah line is still called Pacific Junction, even though the Olympia Hiawatha and Pacific Extension weren't there.

Pacific Junction was named for the C&P, not the Pacific extension. Milwaukee's line to Omaha and Sioux Falls was competitive with the other railroads in the same market. UP's 1955 switch from the C&NW for the "City" trains spelled the end of Milwaukee's own brand there, but the level of service was high until almost the 1971 end. Most of the line west of Savanna Illinois was abandoned prior to the Soo Line purchase of Miilwaukee's assets.

Up until the depression, several UP trains turned over one or more Pullmans to Milwaukee at Omaha, even though the through trains went on the C&NW.
