Passenger service to Casper ended in 1967. The Shoshone was a named passenger train of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and its subsidiary the Colorado and Southern Railway. The train operated between Denver, Colorado and Billings, Montana via Casper, Wyoming and the Wind River Canyon.

The wreckage of a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy passenger train is seen in this 1923 photo. The train crashed near Glenrock after heavy rains took out a bridge over Cole Creek.
