Apologies if this isn’t the right place, but I recently acquired a couple of UP lanterns that I wanted to get cleaned up and working for my son, but I’m a bit stymied on what batteries they take and where I can order them. (My son is crazy about trains and is a big UP and Santa Fe fan).

I was able to get a model “Star 2012” in green and a “star 2007-LED” in yellow.

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Most likely you can go to Walmart and get a 6V battery for the lanterns from the camping section. I found they usually have decent costs for this niche item.

The do use standard 6V batteries. I’ve got several lanterns from over the years of my career. They are handy because they can be tied up, for example when camping. They have one direct beam /bulb for spot lighting, and the other is not focused. On the railroad it is used for signaling, but it lights up a wide area well. At work they have gone to rechargeable batteries. They might be cheaper, and definitely more environmentally friendly in the long run.
