I was looking at google earth yesterday when i started to follow the tracks near the old CNJ terminal. As i got further north i saw a building which had tracks goto it at one time. It took a few minutes to see what was written on the roof decades ago, but it stood out once i was able to read it "LACKAWANNA" faded in white on the roof top. Its just west of newport and sw of the hblr going over the inlet near hoboken.

Does anyone know what this building was?

You are looking indeed at the massive LACKAWANNA WAREHOUSE which is STILL IN USE. It even has pillars supporting defunct tracks for loading/unloading which to this day have stenciled on them; NO PARKING. DL&W"

The building is just off of Marin and is one of the last if not THE last such warehouse in the area. The Erie's cold storage warehouse burned about ten years ago, practically adjacent to the Holland Tunnel toll plaza.

Outside of some tunnels going through the cliffs, there's NOTHING left of Erie in JC.
