...................................Eversource 115 kV Transmission Project Update
Greetings!

BOND Civil & Utility Construction and its subcontractors are continuing work on the Eversource 115 kilovolt (kV) Underground Transmission Line Project. This upgrade is one of a group of projects designed to improve the reliability of the electric system serving the area. The schedule calls for construction from Monday to Friday this week. Crews will NOT be working on Thursday (November 24) next week. Construction activities are not expected to interrupt electric service.

Eversource Field Outreach Representative Brianna Germain is hosting Office Hours, where people can learn more about the Project and ask questions. If you are interested in attending any of these sessions (schedule below), please reply to this message. Otherwise, feel free to respond to this email, or call the Project Hotline at 1-833-836-0302 with questions.

Thursday, November 17, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Sudbury Police Department (Training Room), 75 Hudson Road, Sudbury

Thursday, December 8, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Sudbury Police Department (Training Room), 75 Hudson Road, Sudbury

Work Hours
Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday but crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Due to unforeseen conditions like weather, occasional activities may extend beyond these approved hours based on feedback from local officials.

Hudson
Between White Pond Road and Main Street in the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) inactive rail corridor, BOND has begun clearing vegetation within the limits of work. Crews may also be active between Wilkins Street, Chestnut Street, and Parmenter Road, in the inactive rail corridor. These activities are expected to last for several weeks and the removal of rails and ties will start at the end of the month.
Off Forest Avenue, one crew will install the first vault (MH1) starting on November 22 on Hudson Light & Power (49 Forest Avenue) property. Duct bank excavation (600 feet) started this week, and some vegetation removal will also be happening in the area. Construction on Forest Avenue will NOT commence until Spring 2023.

Sudbury
In the inactive MBTA corridor, crews have established construction entrances at the road crossings and will continue installing sediment and erosion controls moving east toward the Sudbury Substation (163 Boston Post Road). Initial vegetation clearing is expected to happen in early December.
Off Boston Post Road, at the Eversource Sudbury Substation, G. Greene Construction, another Eversource contractor, is making upgrades to electrical equipment inside the Substation. G. Greene Construction is excavating foundations and moving earth to make room for new equipment. Construction activities for this portion of the Project are within the fence line of the Substation (Eversource property) and will be completed in 2023. G. Greene Construction will NOT be working at the Substation on November 24 and November 25.

The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail project is progressing. I saw today they're lifting the rail south of Old Lancaster Road. I expect the diamond to be gone shortly.

Last Wednesday I saw rail stacked south of RT 27 in Sudbury. When I went down Union St. it looked like the Central Mass ROW had been cleared and dug up . I think the diamond was already gone since equipment had obviously been traveling the ROW.

Wouldn't surprise me. Peakham Road looks clear both sides. I haven't checked Horse Pond in the past week..

March 15, 2023 Project Update
Greetings!

Eversource and its contractor BOND Civil & Utility Construction and their subcontractors (ET&L Construction, M-O-N Landscaping, and Moosehead) resumed construction on the 115-kilovolt (kV) Underground Transmission Line Project. Eversource asks people to avoid walking on and crossing the inactive Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) rail corridor. Construction is not expected to interrupt electric service.

In the corridor, work starts with vegetation removal in the limits of work, followed by placing erosion controls and railroad rail/tie removal. From there, grading of the limits of work happens. After these enabling activities are completed, crews excavate, install cable vaults and duct bank and backfill trenches. Duct bank is typically installed between vaults that have been recently placed.

Work Hours
Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday but crews are working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Hudson and Sudbury, barring inclement weather. Occasional work may extend beyond the approved hours, due to unforeseen circumstances, based on approval from municipal staff.

Below is an overview of the active and upcoming work zones. View the Project map for additional details on the location of work crews.

Hudson
In the inactive MBTA rail corridor from Bridge 130 to Main Street, crews are excavating, installing duct bank, and backfilling trenches between multiple cable vaults (MH7 and MH8, MH8 and MH9) for the coming weeks. Cables vaults are sometimes also called manholes (MH).
From Main Street to Parmenter Road, similar activities, including excavation, duct bank installation and backfilling trenches in the limits of work is happening between MH9 and MH10.
Starting in early April on Forest Avenue, between Wheeler Road and Wilkins Street, construction crews will begin installing cable vaults and duct bank in the roadway. Eversource Field Outreach representatives will be in touch with more specific details on planned initial work zones.

Sudbury
From the Town line to Bridge 128, grading of the limits of work will continue toward the end of next week.
Between Dutton Road and Peakham Road, grading of the limits of work will be on-going next week.
From Peakham Road to Hose Pond Road, Eversource approved contractors will be finishing grading the limits of work over the next week.
Between Union Ave and Boston Post Road, removal of rails and ties is on-going and will be followed by grading within the limits of work.
Between Boston Post Road and Bridge 127, crews will be working to install erosion controls and removing rails and ties. This activity will last through the end of next week.
Between Bridge 127 and the Sudbury Substation, crews are installing wall sheeting near the bridge, which is an interlocking steel panel that acts as a retaining wall. A retaining wall is a rigid wall that holds soil laterally.

June 2 Project Update

Members of the community can expect to see construction at several sites related to the Eversource 115-kilovolt (kV) Underground Transmission Line Project. Eversource asks people to avoid walking on the inactive Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) rail corridor.

Crews are focused on placing cable vaults (also called manholes or MH for short) and installing duct bank. In both cases the operation begins with excavation, installing the cable vault or duct bank, and backfilling trenches. Crews typically work between recently placed cables vaults to install duct bank, for example, between MH12 and MH13 in Hudson.

Work Hours

Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday but crews are working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional crews are working from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., in the Hudson roads at the intersection of Main Street and Forest Avenue. Occasional work may extend beyond the approved hours, due to unforeseen circumstances, based on approval from local officials.

Below is an overview of the active work zones. View the project map for additional details on the location of work crews.

Hudson

On Forest Avenue and Wilkins Street, crews are continuing to excavate and install duct bank in the road between two cables vaults (MH4 and MH5) between Glendale Road and Main Street. Crews are also performing night work (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) at the Main Street crossing at Forest Avenue. Work at this road crossing is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
In the corridor between Wilkins Street and Bridge 130, crews are beginning the excavation and installation of duct bank between MH6 and MH7.
In the corridor from Main Street to Parmenter Road, crews are working to complete final grading. This activity will continue next week.
On Chestnut Street north of the corridor, crews will be working to construct an emergency vehicle turn-around that will be used during construction of the Chestnut Street crossing. This work will be completed by the end of the week.

Sudbury

In the corridor from Peakham Road to Horse Pond Road, crews plan to begin excavating and installing conduit within the limits of work, working between two previously installed cable vaults (MH20 and MH21).
Between Boston Post Road and Bridge 127 in the MBTA corridor, crews will begin to install a cable vault (MH25) north of Maple Ave. This work will continue through to next week.
Off Union Avenue in the MBTA corridor, crews will install another cable vault (MH24) west of Union Ave, once MH25 is completed.

*Due to the complexities of underground construction, the two-week schedule described above is subject to change.

Typical Construction

I sure hope they leave it in place, I don't think I've ever seen an original signal on a rail trail, they always rip them out!

South of Williams Rd in Concord on the same rail line they did, although for some reason they rotated this and whistle posts ninety degrees. At W Concord they also built a park with a turnout where the yard used to be.

This signal was to hold long freights headed to Lowell until they had clearance to cross the diamond without blocking road crossings.

On the Stoneham Rail Trail, at the bridge under 93, they bent the two telltales over and removed all the chains for apparently no reason. Then they overgrew with vines so you couldn't even see them. The vine problem has been fixed but its a shame they kind of destroyed them.

There's one on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in New York. You could even climb it as they left the ladder in place.
