Have heard it was costing them $1M a week. Dont know if that number covered the cost of detours or just the cleanup and tunnel repair. Either way, it's been an expensive couple months.

Generally, a financial statement of cash flows, an income statement, or an annual report would break out "extraordinary items". But are the statements accessible? A lot depends on their ownership status and regulatory requirements. I'm not sure if they're publicly traded or not; last I read, years ago, was that they were privately held. A cursory search did not reveal any stock information, and their home page did not have an investor relations tab/page. So no. You're not going to get 10-Q's or K's, or other SEC type disclosures.

However, they're in a regulated industry, so it's possible the FRA/STB or state authorities would require financial statements. I imagine one could request a copy via FOIA, but that would depend on federal or state law.

It's possible, if you have a Dun and Bradstreet subscription, that you could view them there as well.

They are privately held, same as since 1981.

The STB requires carload and status reports which are not granular. A FOIA request would not apply to non-governmental entity like this.

Norfolk Southern may have to disclose it on their quarterly SEC filings if it's material to the company ... Seems unlikely as it is such a small part of their business.

Per NS Service Alert from 4/1/20:

Progress continues toward restoring train service to and from Ayer, MA following a partial-wall collapse in the Hoosac Tunnel on February 12, 2020. Pan Am Railway expects service to be restored between Albany, NY and Ayer, MA by Saturday, April 4th.

Effective 12:01am Monday, April 6, 2020, all ingates will re-open to shipments billed for movement to and from Ayer.

There was a 16R Detour Train by Greenfield with about 70 cars at 0731 this morning (4/4) heading for Bellows Falls. Maybe the last westbound detour train???

16R is the other way. They came off the GMRC just before 5am, with 48x22. The last 11R reached HJ before 9am yesterday; we'll know by this evening whether that was truly the last westbound.

Not sure what they are but supposed to at least 3 waiting for the bore to reopen tonight.

1st revenue train through the re-opened tunnel was 11R (led by NS1191), entering the east port just before 10PM Saturday night 4/4/20.

The same crew went and grabbed a combined 16R/RJED staged at HJ and brought it back east through the tunnel. An eastbound 22K chassis move should have been the third train.

Do we know if they did any work to prepare for taller clearance?

0410/04-06-2020 attempts at copying NS Service Alert link and text didn't work, but NS announced the the tunnel was open and had a photo of first NS train -- not IDd as PAS in caption -- exiting West Portal. There was also an an advisory that tunnel would have 12-hour closures for further engineering work.

They didn't. That will require top and/or undercutting the east end and possibly additional undercutting on the west end. None of that was in the scope of the repairs.

So the work just done will have to be done over within a few years. Sometimes that's just the way it is.
