Living near Fort Collins, CO, I get the chance to revisit the past through the branches of Union Pacific from La Salle and Great Western Railway in town. The Great Western typically powers their transfer jobs with a pair of geeps in OSS lease, Central Kansas Railway or fresh-painted GW schemes. Listening to a set of geeps churning slowly past pushing 25 boxes for Budweiser, it is not hard to stir memories of Marion, OH in 1973 at trackside as an ABBA set of EL F7's straining by the station with the bean train. The UP branch power comes into town with 3-4 SD units. Not long ago, power was typically unrepainted DRGW, SSW or SP GP-40's/38's. Last month, their BNSF interchange consist rolled by me at a crossing and included a Ma and Pa Berwick 50-ft box. Except for the repainted reporting marks, it was untouched still hangin on after all these years. Of course, no camera and a return visit the next day found it gone!
