When I was about ten years old I started to "work" with my father. He was a nurseryman and landscaper from our home land in Gillette. Tom Tabor (Sr.) was a friend of my parents, and I loved when they were at our home for dinner or vice versa. My father landscaped their home in the Morristown area (as I remember). But, I remember him telling me that the P&D was not seriously destined to extend from Gladstone to Chester because the M&E was doing that from what was west of Dover. Also, there was (is) too much of an elevation difference between Gladstone and Chester.
The other thing I remember is him saying that the "line to Philadelphia" was considered to split off at Far Hills because that would have been less hilly to the Deleware River. Millington had been briefly considered, but Far Hills would have been a much easier route.
