I guess if at Beech Grove, they loaded it on to a highway flatbed and told the driver to keep moving, they could have it at Rensselaer overnight.

Do you think the former one can be rebuilt? Trust the rest of the unit is intact and the electronics were not damaged. If some paint got scorched, who worries about that when you're trying to hold what you got together with "string and bailing wire" and the "new stuff" simply doesn't work?

So Mr. CSRR should be happy to have "his" engine back at BOS.
You mean BON? It was on the Downeaster when it flamed out.

Mr. Wolf, the maintenance facility at which Mr. CSRR strongly suggests around here he's at is Southampton, or near BOS.

I think you'll find that each Amtrak maintenance facility has its own Facility Code. The only one I know is BEE for Beech Grove.

Prime mover wise sure but its got ACSES. Not every p42 does. You need that to run or atleast lead up here in Boston
That is why she is valuable and was rebuilt. If she did not have it she may have been a parts donator.

As I broke a 42 yesterday the 108 is stretching her legs on a round trip to Burlington added her to the rear of AMT 291 last night. The shop did a really nice job on the rebuild you would never know she caught fire. No smell in the cab which was nice. Only a small scorch mark in the paint near the stack.

In an echo of the HHP-8 conversions, Amtrak has apparently begun converting surplus P42s into NPCUs, starting with the former 184, now 9700.

Mr. Constance, any report how that unit you note is liveried?

Enquiring mind wants to know.

I know where she may be or end up. With the tunnel project fast approaching and all Empire service trains running as push pulls. The need for extra engines and control cabs is greatly needed.

I do recall this past summer when the shop had ripped the guts out of the 184 and an electrician I know said you are looking at a new prototype cab car. Whether or not it stayed in ALB all this time I have no idea.

Saw some photos of that. Burned so hot it buckled the rail underneath her. Got the back end of a new Yugo too.

With our dual modes there have been issues with fuel lines again. Not the old but the new replacements. Same pieces parts??? The high pressure stuff manufactured across the pond is not holding up.

One of the chargers is already back in service I believe. Just had a burnt speed sensor wire.

And it was a bad two days for the heritage units, 46 was involved in a grade crossing accident just north of Hartford yesterday. Although its looks like its just a bent fireman's ladder and some cosmetic stuff
