1Lt. William L. Calley Jr. USA

Fair Use:
He worked as a bellhop, a restaurant dishwasher and a switchman for the Florida East Coast Railroad until he was arrested on charges of allowing a train to block five downtown intersections in Fort Lauderdale during rush hour. He moved west. His car broke down in Albuquerque in 1966, and he enlisted in the Army.

Later to become commanding officer of C Company, 1st/20th Infantry of the 23rd Infantry Division, the Americal Division. Since it returned from South Vietnam in 1971, the 1/20th Infantry and the 23ID were disbanded and not reactivated since. The Army has a long memory, and Calley's failure to control his command remains a black mark in the ledger.
