I am posting some of my pictures from a trip I took on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad in 2004 at

Last yea'rs "416" Wildfire has been caused by a DNSG train in a suit filed by the federal government today,
claiming the stack spark screening failed! Feds are trying to get the RR to pay the costs of fire fighting crews and restoration of forest lands
Also a bunch of local land owners filed suit late last year for Damages

The D&S has announced it is acquiring four of the White Pass & Yukon Railway’s distinctive Montreal Locomotive Works DL535C diesels, 1,200-hp C-C locomotives built in 1969 and 1971. The railroad said work on the acquisition began last September and was finalized in January; terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The first two locomotives, Nos. 101 and 107, began their trip on Saturday, when they were loaded on a barge in Skagway, Alaska, to begin a multi-week trip to Colorado. The other two units will be selected later this year and moved to Colorado in the second quarter of 2021.

While steam locomotives will remain the Durango & Silverton’s primary power, the railroad will now have 10 diesels on its roster. Initial plans for the new diesels are for maintenance-of-way use and on the short-trip Cascade Canyon Express summer excursions.

SILVERTON – In a sign of strange times, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad didn’t take passengers Thursday through the San Juan Mountains to the town of Silverton; rather, the locomotive ferried food and medical supplies.

An “essential services train” left the Durango depot about 8:30 a.m. and arrived in Silverton about noon with the supplies. While the train did not carry passengers, members of the Harper family, who own the railroad, were on board to meet with local leaders.

With the train’s arrival, Silverton, which has been closed to outsiders since March because of coronavirus restrictions, announced it was open to visitors.

“Most importantly, this is the train’s version of an F-16 flyover,” said DeAnne Gallegos, director of the Silverton Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s bringing support and hope and energy into town.”

D&SNG RR has started service to the Halfway point of Cascade Canyon this week,as allowed by state(Co) heath orders.
The oil burning Steam Loco and Diesels sharing Duty for now.
Also C&TS RR is running service out of Anonito to Osier Co per That states health orders.
Service out of Chama suspended till NM health orders allow it

Washout: Trains.com

A washout has cut the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad’s access to Silverton for eight to 16 weeks, the Durango Herald reports. A log jam on the railroad’s bridge at Elk Creek, about five miles from Silverton, forced the creek to overflow and washed out more than 40 feet of the railroad’s track.

The Feds(Forest service) have posted a stop work order on that bridge repair,site is in the San Juan National forest ,also the lawsuit for the 416 wildfire is still pending.
