They were saying signal problems.

well if they say signal problems, would it be something different ?

Yes, but they usually fix them in less than 12 hours.

Per MTA, an outside contractor dug up the signal lines along the street in the Town of Cortlandt.

and I believe signal cables are only allowed splices at certain points , so they probably have to run a new cable for entire run.
Maybe someone from Signal Dept can confirm.

Train derailed just outside of Rye around 430 based on twitter timestamps. Significant delays experienced across the New Haven line, compounding on earlier power and signal problems. Presently stuck on Amtrak 94 outside of SHELL.

Some very severe thunderstorms possibly carrying a tornado in the vicinity of Pawling. Tornado Warnings stretching from just east of Poughkeepsie towards Southbury, CT. Depending on how bad these storms blow through there could be issues with Upper Harlem Line service well into the evening:

Hot off the presses, issues on the New Haven Line this evening:

"Customers should anticipate delays of 20 to 30 minutes in both directions due to a track condition requiring attention."

From the MTA service tracker at 9:06 AM:

"New Haven Line customers please be advised eastbound trains will resume stopping at Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Harrison. Westbound trains will continue to operate on opposite sides. This is due to several weather related issues on the New Haven Line. Customers should anticipate delays of up to 20-30 minutes. Please listen to announcements at your station."

Looks like yesterday's storm messed up the westbound tracks (or catenary, or both) of the New Haven Line in Westchester something good.

12-9 (person hit by train) on the Waterbury at Beacon Falls this morning. First one in quite a while, the last one was a few years ago just outside Naugatuck station.

I didn't see any mention of the problems currently being encountered on the Harlem Line. I guess the Metro-North statement describes it best.

Substitute bus service remains in effect between Southeast, Brewster and Goldens Bridge Stations until further notice due to multiple downed power poles in the area. Be advised that buses are departing Southeast and Brewster 20 minutes ahead of the regularly scheduled train departure times. Croton Falls and Purdy's customers should drive to Goldens Bridge, Katonah or North White Plains for direct train service to Grand Central Terminal. Free weekend parking is available at these stations. Train service between Grand Central Terminal and Goldens Bridge and train service between Southeast and Wassaic is still operating. Link

I don't remember busing on this scale in a long time. Obviously it's MU trains but where is the nearest crossover from Track 2 to Track 1? The other factor was the timing. The storm was on Wednesday but the service suspension was announced on Friday afternoon?

Not sure of the #, was CP Gold at Golden's Bridge as the closest working crossover.
