Not train related (but still transportation-related), but Monmouth County is trying to take over the airport that's in the Wall/Farmingdale area:

Rumors amongst the locals seem to be that the county wants to turn it into a regional/international airport - Monmouth Executive Airport has a longer runway (7,345 ft) than LaGuardia (7,002 ft). Further, LaGuardia covers 680 acres of land, Monmouth Executive Airport sits on 850 or so acres.
Now here is where the railroads come in (with some wild speculation): if the county decides to try making this a regional/international airport, would they try to use the local railroad(s) for facilitating transport of passengers? 80 or so years ago, there was a wye that ran off the Southern and across Belmar Blvd that ran to a sandpit that is now part of the airport.
