Orgo was the business he mentioned, yes.

Another person in the group said that a warehouse is going up adjacent to the Orgo property, that will have physical access to the siding. Doesn't mean they will necessarily use it, but... it's a future option

Talked with one of the guys about it today. Said the tracks going through the Orgo property belonged to the navy. It was the access to a temporary Lakehurst supply area.

Is that why that track goes so far past Orgo? I thought they alway used the current military spur???

Ok so I had a look. Old satellite imagery shows that the Orgo siding did not extend into the base, nor did it cross Ridgeway Blvd. in the 1972 picture below, Orgo is towards the top right, and the current military track can be seen on the bottom left branching off the Southern and crossing South Hope Chapel Road going into the base. Not the difference in track alignment.

Yellow is the Military lead, blue is Orgos Track. Please note the line’s don’t perfectly follow the tracks, had to draw with my finger on my phone screen and couldn’t see the track behind my finger.

You can see the trackage for the Lakehurst in current overhead imagery, it appears to be mostly intact (if completely unused).

We spoke more this morning, a little confusion from this old timer. It was a temporary supply or construction area built by the navy then sold off after there was no longer a need for it. There was more to the story of this spur. He'd said if you'd look at the guard booth fencing and buildings, it's standard GI construction.

If you follow the old military spur that goes into the base on google maps, it does not go very far into the base before it ends in a buffer stop.

I am curious to know when the last time the military spur was used. I do know that the now-abandoned Pemberton and Hightstown Railroad operated by the Union Transportation Company was a big provider of service to Fort Dix, and that went belly-up in the late 70s

Last use was for the removal of nuclear waste in December 2007

I don’t think so. My pals said it looks like it was just the regular inspection they do.

It had a different alignment than now and entered the base south and north of Landsdowne. There is still a noticeable amount of rails/ROW to this day in certain areas of the northern part of the base.

According to Facebook, JB-1 is pushing past Preston, towards Howell. Not sure how far it pushed on the new track before turning around.

Any news on RB-1 today??
