On Thursday, just before Parliament went into recess - so it couldn't debate their decision - the Tories announced a cutting back of electrification plans. Thus they want to stop the extension of electrification of the Great Western from Swansea to Cardiff. Swansea is the usual terminus of trains to Wales from Paddington. The trains would be serviced by combined electric and diesel locomotives.

There were some other cutting backs of the same kind. The most memorable is the branch to Windermere.

The aim claimed is the desire to save money.

As they don't have a majority it will interesting to see whether they get away with these cuts.
