A Cut-Up UPdate..

The last two New York Central passenger cars on the property have had their trucks removed, and are chained to flat cars in Croton North Yard. It's a mighty sad sight.

Yes, most of us know that at least one of those cars was on the inaugural run of the Empire State Express of December 7th, 1941.

Since so much was torched right there at that site, I am wondering if those cars are being shipped out to a buyer for restoration, or if they're just being transported to an outscourced scrap shop?

Those cars were not even safe to be moved anymore, the foor and side sills had rusted out and a cement floor was poured in them.
Those cars had no interior other than a workshop and AC managers office in them.

Don't worry, Dieter, we have five ESE Budd coaches preserved up in Rochester- we picked them up from MN in the mid-1980s. We also have the Alonzo P. Cornell RPO car. Donations to Rochester Chapter NRHS would help keep these cars rolling for years to come... www.rochnrhs.org.

It would be fabulous if someone could get the surviving letter boards off of that one coach before it's turned into Cat Food Cans!
