Valued Pan Am/CSX Customers,
Today marks the start of a new era for New England rail customers. With CSX’s acquisition of Pan Am Railways now official, we can begin the integration process that will increase efficiency and bring new service opportunities for customers in the Northeast and beyond.
We are excited by the improvements that lie ahead, but we also want to emphasize that our first priority is a smooth transition. A joint team of CSX and Pan Am subject matter experts has been working closely together for many months to develop a detailed plan and transition timeline.
With very few exceptions, Pan Am employees will remain in their current roles, and service on the Pan Am network will continue as it has in the past. As the integration progresses, we will start adding newer, fuel-efficient locomotives on Pan Am lines, integrating the Pan Am and CSX rail car fleets, and utilizing the CSX yard at Selkirk, New York, to combine Pan Am shipments into car blocks that increase network fluidity and improve service.
By the fourth quarter of 2022, we plan to begin transitioning Pan Am customers to the ShipCSX online customer service platform, and implementing CSX tariff structures. We’re also eager to get started with more than $100 million in infrastructure improvements to take place over the next three years. Already planned for the fourth quarter of 2022 are upgrades at Rigby Yard and on two mainline routes.
The combined impact of all these changes will be service improvement, which we hope will reinforce and expand the role of rail in your supply chain. We plan to work closely with you to meet your business objectives and to support growth by offering efficient single-line service over a much larger network and by introducing innovative new rail-based supply chain solutions.
We will keep you informed as the integration progresses. Please feel free to reach out to your CSX/Pan Am contacts if you have any questions in the interim. For those of you with shipments that move on the Pan Am Southern (PAS) network, now jointly owned by CSX and Norfolk Southern, please be aware that Springfield Terminal will continue to manage those operations until the Berkshire & Eastern Railroad (B&E), a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, completes its current negotiations with labor and is ready to begin operating the PAS system. More information will be provided as that transition approaches.
Thank you for choosing safe, efficient and sustainable rail transportation.

Re: airport, not sure why one would think the PAR website would have a photo of some random airport's security vehicles. These are actual PAR (B&M) RR Police vehicles.neman2 wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 4:08 pm Two comments I have- 1) What do they use a Hummer for? 2) Somebody should tell someone about blurring license plate images on the internet.Remember, they're not RR vehicles, but airport (my guess). So the Hummer is for the terrorists, and the license plates on the 2014 Explorers are probably no longer good. And, as I learned to my amusement, NY police have to have real license plates numbers, front and back. http://www.statetrooperplates.com/newyork.html
